Is this 2 fields which you are talking about ?

Like one field is a complex table drop down and other is a default field. If you dont find the required data in complex table search you go and enter the value in the Normal field.

Or is it a single field which selects data from complex table and also allows user to enter data into the same field ?

As far as i know if you have a field type as complex table search you will not be able to enter manually to the field. You will have to select values from the complex table and hit the finish button to complete the transaction. You can have a special value as None if data expected data is not present on the complex table.
